For the first page or two, the detailed and reserved writing style of Martin F. Sorenson’s new mystery, Window on Pike’s Place, baffled me. After just a few pages, I realized that this close third person viewpoint had drawn me into the mind of his main character – Afghanistan veteran and ex-cop Rachel McAllister – as much as into her precarious situation. She is a reserved person and slow to trust, though physically courageous and incredibly observant. I do not remember when I have read a mystery so detailed, every object, face and action clear during Rachel’s ordeal, framed for the murder of her beloved fiancé. I’ll admit, because my children live in Seattle, I loved the vivid scene-setting and local lore, yet even these did not distract me from the plot. I simply could not put this book down! We know from the beginning that Rachel is innocent. But I worried about her emotional stability, fretted as one discovery after another tormented her, and guessed repeatedly to no avail, as she did, about the murderer. If you are a mystery-lover like I am, do not miss this one!Product details

Window on Pike Place Martin F Sorensen 9781937818180 Books Reviews
A fast moving mystery with local (Seattle) landmarks folded into the story. Lots of character development. The surprise ending vindicated my favorite characters.
A great new addition to the mystery/crime genre. The author’s well developed characters and clean tight writing style make this a most enjoyable read.
Marty has done wonders with this story. I watched it develop as part of a critique group so can say that it has turned into a very suspenseful novel.
This morning I completed the reading of "Window on Pike Place." I truly enjoyed the book, always looking forward to the next turn in the story, with many unexpected ones at that. I can honestly say it is one of the best crime/mystery novels that I have read in a very long time. Loved the characters, the poignant details, the setting, and the natural flow of events. I find that many mystery writers find it difficult to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together at the end which often leaves me disappointed. Martin Sorensen masterfully brought all the elements of the story together for a very satisfying reading experience.
Strong characters and a plot that had quite an unexpected ending. Lots of details that made the story believable. It is also a story about friendship and what friends really mean to and for each other.
There was some profanity which I did not care for .. and that cost Mr Sorensen the fifth star.
Written in a tight economical style, Window on Pike Place is strong in both detail and imagery (The lightning bleached the public market... The windows...glared in the orange light like sentinels). In following the perils of Rachel McAlister, a woman framed for the murder of her lover, the reader is thrown into a veritable hall of mirrors in which little is as it appears. And the finale bears the wallop of a battlefield bullet. A compelling who-done-it.
Excellent book! Marty Sorensen has a way of describing situations and actions that keeps your interest and is very fascinating. This story is a thriller and the kind of book you just can't put down. I loved the way it twists and turns and keeps peaking your interest. It's another good read from Marty. I highly recommend it!
